Naturally Fresh Deodorant

Basil essential oil contains eugenol and rosmarinic acid — compounds with clinically documented antibacterial activity. In the context of a deodorant, these compounds target the specific bacteria that convert sweat into odour. Sweat itself is largely odourless. It’s bacterial activity that creates the problem. Basil addresses the cause directly.

Natural deodorants often rely on fragrance to mask odour rather than prevent it. Basil reduces the bacterial activity that creates odour in the first place. Combined with the other botanicals, it makes a formula that works through action, not chemistry tricks.

Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) extract is distilled from the bark and leaves of the witch hazel shrub. It contains tannins — naturally occurring polyphenols with astringent, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Applied to underarm skin, it temporarily tightens pores, reduces surface inflammation and creates a cleaner, drier skin surface. It’s also notably effective at calming irritation from shaving — a daily reality most deodorant brands ignore entirely.

Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides) is a deep-rooted grass native to southern India. Its roots are steam-distilled to produce one of the most complex essential oils in nature — containing over 100 identified compounds, primarily sesquiterpenes and sesquiterpene alcohols. These give vetiver its distinctive earthy, woody character and its natural antibacterial and deodorising properties. One ingredient doing two things well.

Most natural deodorants use fragrance to mask what the formula isn’t preventing.
