Exfoliation: why your skin needs it

A physical exfoliator – like ours – contains tiny, minuscule ‘beads’ that work overtime to buff away all of these nasties sitting on the skin. But don’t worry, our exfoliator doesn’t contain planet-harming microplastics.

You’ve probably heard of exfoliator, but do you actually know what it is? We’re here to break it down for you and to let you know why, exactly, all skin types could benefit from a good exfoliation

First things first, what is exfoliation? The process of physically exfoliating the skin is often referred to as buffing the outer layer of the skin’s epidermis. This makes way for a fully cleansed and clear surface, free of dead skin cells, pollution and product build up. If you’ve noticed your skin looking a bit dull, lacklustre and just missing a general glow to it, you’re likely in need of a good exfoliation. A physical exfoliator – like ours – contains tiny, miniscule ‘beads’ which work overtime to buff away all of these nasties that are sitting on the skin. But don’t worry, our exfoliator doesn’t contain planet-harming microplastics.

A lot of people shy away from physical exfoliation, though, in fear that it will be too harsh for their skin – particularly those with sensitive and delicate skin types. But it’s all about the way in which you apply the exfoliator, what you follow or precede the product with, the ingredients that you choose and how often you decide to do it. With our exfoliator, you can be safe in the knowledge that it’s formulated with super gentle ingredients that, while still working hard to create a really good physical exfoliation and buff of the skin, doesn’t react with sensitive skin. We’ve used basil as our prime ingredient, of course, but also mixed it with smoothing and cleansing components such as aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, shea butter and lots of delicious essential oils like chamomile, bergamot and eucalyptus.

The best way to use it is a couple of times a week, after cleansing. It doesn’t matter whether you use it at night or in the morning – both have their benefits. At night, you’ll feel squeaky clean, knowing that you’ve got rid of any potential toxins that could be sitting on the skin. And in the morning, exfoliating can help you feel super refreshed and awake. We suggest exfoliating after you cleanse, to really get the most out of your skincare. Let the cleanser wash away the first layer of dirt and use the exfoliator to double cleanse, ensuring that you’re leaving a super fresh, super clean complexion. We always recommend following exfoliation with something to hydrate the skin, like our soon-to-be-launched moisturiser, because no matter how gentle the actual exfoliator is, you’re still doing a deep cleanse which requires some level of hydration afterwards.

Our exfoliator is out now and is the perfect addition to your skincare routine, whether it’s your first time exfoliating or you’ve been doing it for years. Head to our shop to learn more about the powerful, vertical farm-grown ingredients in our brand new exfoliator.
