My childhood was spent on a humble farm in deep Herefordshire so I’ve seen, first hand, what it takes to build brands from the land and soil. I’ve been inspired by the art of growing for as long as I can remember.
A few years ago when I hit my thirties, I found that years of staying up late, drinking too many spirits and not taking good enough care of my skin was taking its toll. I started to focus on my mental and physical health and wellbeing, started to moderate what I drank, began to eat better and consume more water. I realised that as part of a holistic and well-rounded routine, I also needed to start paying attention to my skin – which is the body’s largest organ.
The issue was, I couldn’t find skincare that suited what I was looking for. So much of what’s out there is targeted specifically at a female audience and then rebranded to suit what is stereotypically ‘male’, with overpowering scents, chemical ingredients and over-the-top phrases like thunder and steel. To be honest, I just couldn’t connect with any of them. Looking to my farming heritage and my newfound interest in health, wellness and a holistic lifestyle, I decided that I wanted to fill that gap. BAZ & CO is all about fitting into a holistic mindset and lifestyle where selfcare, exercise and eating and drinking the right things are top priority.
The ever-growing intensity of city life and the toll that was having on humankind inspired me to start looking at vertical farms. This type of farming uses 90% less water, zero herbicides or pesticides and grows products in a controlled environment all year round. Basil, in particular, thrives in a vertical farm, which is why it’s our hero product and why our company is named after it. Basil is incredibly anti-inflammatory and has wonderful antimicrobial properties, which make it perfect for generating healthy, glowing skin. Add this to other vital botanicals and herbs (the ‘CO’ in BAZ & CO) such as spearmint, frankincense and coriander and you have a winning formula. We work closely with our vertical farmer, James, and our master in essential oils, Barbara, to formulate products that have pure and sustainably-produced ingredients at their core.
