The power of the morning routine

The power of the morning routine

You’ll feel lighter and brighter

Some hail 5-6am ‘the power hour’ for its ability to set a day up for success. So, why is a morning routine so important?

Read an interview with any of the world’s most successful people and one thing they all have in common is the emphasis that they place on their morning routine. Some hail 5-6am ‘the power hour’ for its ability to set a day up for success. So, why is a morning routine so important?

First things first: the morning routine has to start the night before. It’s no good trying to wake up at 5am every morning if you’ve gone to bed at midnight the night before. You might be able to survive on that little sleep for a few days, but there’s absolutely no way that you can thrive on it. Taking the time to wind down for at least 30 minutes before you intend on going to bed will make all of the difference to your quality of sleep and how refreshed and awake you feel the next day.

Start by taking a nice long shower with our BAZ & CO Restore and Awaken body wash, where essential oils and aromatherapy can both relax and refresh you – whether you wash in the morning or at night. Then take measures to avoid technology (yes, that includes your TV) and instead get into bed before you want to go to sleep and read a book or even take some time to just lie there and do some breathwork. The next morning, you’ll feel lighter and brighter and won’t feel so jarred when that early alarm goes off.

Whether you decide to set your alarm at five, six or seven in the morning, Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Elon Musk and Snapchat’s Evan Spiegel have all spoken of getting up early to spend time alone – whether that’s exercising, meditating, cooking, having a cold shower or just spending some extra time on skincare. That’s the crucial part: it’s not about getting up early in order to get to work early (in fact, you want to try your hardest to stay off your phone, laptop or iPad), it’s about getting up and prioritising yourself so that when work does start, you’re bringing your most refreshed and cared-for self to the table, both metaphorically and physically. It’s been said that the way you start your morning can set the tone for your entire day and Tim Ferriss, the entrepreneur behind the book The 4-hour Work Week famously said, “win the morning, win the day.”

Think about it: your most rushed, adrenaline-fuelled mornings tend to bleed into anxiety-filled days and difficult nights, don’t they? But what about when you have slept well, woken up early, taken some time to look after your mind and body – then what happens? You’ll likely have a productive and healthy day that leaves you feeling grateful and refreshed.

We’ve always waxed lyrical about the importance of creating a holistic routine for your mind and body and it’s one of the reasons why our founder, James, started BAZ & CO. Rituals and routines, no matter how small they are, can be genuinely impactful in your daily life and we’re big advocates for taking those extra pockets of time and putting them to good use so that you can benefit mentally and physically. It’s also why our products are designed to refresh and relax you, no matter what time of day you use them, and why we’ve placed so much emphasis on the powerful and transformative scents of ingredients like basil, spearmint, grapefruit and apple cider vinegar. Over the coming months, we’re going to be talking to some of the most inspiring people we know about their morning routines and rituals; what time they wake up, what the first thing they do is, what their absolute non-negotiables are and how they look after their skin first thing in the morning. Stay tuned and make sure that you’re signed up to our newsletter and follow us on social media to be the first to know about new releases, blog posts and special offers.
